Uzbekistan hosted DigiGirlz educational program

Microsoft Corporation held DigiGirlz educational program, dedicated to women’s role in development of information technologies in Uzbekistan for the first time with support of local partners, UzA reported.

The event, held at Inha University in Tashkent, was attended by 60 girls at the age from 12 to 17.

DigiGirlz program for girls on investing in education in the sphere of science, technology, engineering and mathematics is designed for preparing future professionals, ready for challenges and problems of the global economy.

The event program was scheduled to the minute and consisted of two parts.

The first half was devoted to the role of girls and women in development of information technologies. Employees of Microsoft Corporation and local IT-companies, as well as Uzbekistan women entrepreneurs delivered their lectures and presentations. They shared their experience in implementing high-tech projects, revealed nuances of working in large corporations. Experts discussed possibilities of building a career in the field of information technologies for girls, as well as presented a report about great contribution of women to the development of communication technologies.

The second part of the program allowed participants to try their hand in invention, to test their technical skills and abilities. The youngest of them created a sensor to control “Flappy Bird" game, and adults collected Robo-hands. They received a set of electronic designer "Adruino", cardboard, wire, and other materials for creating devices. All the activity was carried out under the guidance of experienced professionals, who also gave a brief lecture on programming.

Following the educational program, all participants received certificates, and nine of the most active participants were awarded with valuable prizes.
