Turkmenistan ranks 4th in the suicide rate in Central Asia 20 June 2018

Pursuant to the survey carried out by the World Health Organization in June, Turkmenistan ranks fourth in the suicide rate in Central Asia.

Kazakhstan has the highest rate in the region with the suicide indicator of 22,5 per 100 thousand people in 2016.

Kyrgyzstan has a score of 8,3 and Uzbekistan – 7,4.

Turkmenistan and Tajikistan rank 4th and 5th respectively with the indicators of 6,7 and 2,5, Stanradar reports.

The largest number of suicides is committed in Lithuania, Russia and Guyana, whereas the lowest level of suicide attempts are recorded in Antigua, Barbuda, Barbados and the Bahamas.

One of the suicide cases reported by media outlets occurred in late April. According to Radio “Azatlyk”, a Dashoguz resident failed to depart to Turkey three times in search of a job and borrowed money for the airline ticket he could not pay back, which resulted in a suicide.
