MARUHAN Japan Bank Lao Officially Inaugurated
The opening of MARUHAN Japan Bank Lao marks yet another pioneering ‘first’ for the Group, who made history by opening MARUHAN Japan Bank Plc., the first ever Japanese-owned, Cambodian licensed commercial bank in Cambodia, in Phnom Penh in 2008.
MARUHAN Japan ASEAN Financial Group, which is headquartered at MARUHAN INVESTMENT ASIA in Singapore, includes MARUHAN Japan Bank Lao, Cambodian-based MARUHAN Japan Bank Plc., the Cambodian bank’s network offices in Vientiane and Yangon and leading Cambodian microfinance subsidiary, Sathapana Ltd. In turn, MARUHAN Japan ASEAN Financial Group operates as part of MARUHAN Corporation; one of the most successful privately owned companies in Japan.
To demonstrate the importance of this milestone occasion, the inauguration ceremony was attended by a large number of VIP guests, headed by senior government ministers of Lao PDR. Other distinguished guests included the Governor of the Central Bank of Lao PDR, the Japanese and Cambodian Ambassadors to Lao PDR, a number of high level officials from the Laotian authorities and senior business executives from locally and globally operating blue-chip companies.
The opening of MARUHAN Japan Bank Lao will, for the first time ever, give the people in Lao PDR access to the kind of Japanese hospitality, unprecedented levels of service and sophisticated, state-of–the art financial products that MARUHAN Japan Bank Plc. in Cambodia has been proudly delivering in the neighbouring country since 2008. The MARUHAN Japan ASEAN Financial Group management team is ambitious and intends to use the Group’s unparalleled resources, capacity and expertise to lead the way in revolutionising the ASEAN banking industry, support the strong ties that already exist between Japan and ASEAN countries and contribute to the economic growth and development of the region.
On the same date as the MARUHAN Japan Bank Lao inauguration, a Laotian office of Cambodian commercial bank MARUHAN Japan Bank Plc. also opened its doors in the same building. This office will facilitate commercial and economic ties between Lao PDR and the Kingdom of Cambodia and support the expansion of the Bank’s full-service regional banking network.
Referring to the inauguration of MARUHAN Japan Bank Lao, the Bank’s Chairman and Director Dr. HAN, Chang-Woo (Chairman of MARUHAN Corporation, Japan) says, “We are incredibly proud to be supporting the commercial and financial development of Lao PDR which, due to its key location and the potential for the development of its transport infrastructure, has been highlighted as a future transport hub within the ASEAN region. We are excited about the opportunities this kind of development will create and we know that others are keen to capitalise on these opportunities too. Our team in Vientiane will strongly support these ambitions with the kind of products and information that customers need to be part of Lao PDR’s successful future.”
The Bank’s Director Mr. HAN, Ken (President/CEO of MARUHAN INVESTMENT ASIA, Singapore) continues on the subject of the Bank’s entry into the Lao PDR financial market, “We are committed to excellence in customer service and, as we have done in other places we do business, we are determined to drive up standards in this area in Lao PDR too. People who choose to bank with us will benefit not only from our technical expertise, but will also experience the kind of unparalleled standard of hospitality and service efficiency that Japan is renowned for around the world.”
MARUHAN Japan Bank Lao is confident that its opening, and the opening of the MARUHAN Japan Bank Plc. Vientiane office, will foster confidence with customers and business partners across the region and make MARUHAN Japan ASEAN Financial Group an attractive choice for Laotian, Cambodian, regional and global customers.
