Promoting inclusive economic recovery, Bong Go provides livelihood support to struggling workers in Rizal, Kalinga

Senator Christopher "Bong" Go dispatched his Malasakit Team to assist displaced workers who experienced various crisis in Liwan West, Rizal, Kalinga on Tuesday, May 7.

In a video message, Go highlighted the importance of protecting the well-being of marginalized workers, especially those in rural areas who need better economic opportunities in order to achieve inclusive recovery post-pandemic.

Under Senate Bill No. 420, filed by Go, he proposal to establish a program designed to provide short-term job opportunities for eligible individuals hailing from underprivileged households in rural regions through the proposed Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP). If this bill becomes law, the primary objective of REAP would be to offer temporary employment opportunities to individuals who qualify as economically disadvantaged, impoverished, displaced, or seasonal workers.

In the meantime, Go's Malasakit Team held an initiative at the Rizal Sports Complex where 206 displaced workers received shirts and balls for basketball and volleyball. A select recipient also received a mobile phone.

In partnership with Mayor Karl Baac, the beneficiaries also qualified for the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program through the initiative of Go and the Department of Labor and Employment.

Emphasizing the need for accessible and affordable healthcare services, Senator Go, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health, encouraged individuals facing health issues to utilize the services offered at the Malasakit Centers nearby located at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, Benguet General Hospital in La Trinidad, Far North Luzon General Hospital & Training Center and Conner District Hospital in Apayao, and Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital and Bontoc General Hospital in Mountain Province.

The Malasakit Centers program is an initiative of Go aimed at streamlining access to the government's medical assistance programs for indigent patients. Go is the principal author and sponsor of Republic Act No. 11463, or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which institutionalized the Malasakit Centers program.

Currently, 164 Malasakit Centers nationwide have helped more than ten million Filipinos nationwide, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

Go said who is known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate service for vulnerable sectors.
