Dallas, Texas Employment Law Attorney Discusses EEOC Statistics and Warns Employers to Take All EEOC Complaints Seriously

/cdklawyers.com// 06/01/2012

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission recently released its statistics for 2011. The EEOC reports that 9,952 charges of discrimination were filed by individuals in Texas in 2011.

Dallas, Texas employment law attorney Keith Clouse helps employers respond to such charges. He believes an employer should take all complaints—even those that seem frivolous—seriously. Because charges filed with the EEOC may be precursors to discrimination lawsuits, an employer must devote adequate time and efforts to the EEOC process. Investing the necessary resources at the administrative level can help the employer avoid a discrimination lawsuit, or, at the very least, make litigating a lawsuit easier.

When responding to an EEOC charge, an employer should ensure that its response is both thorough and accurate. The employer should investigate the facts, draft the response, and then have the key players review the response for accuracy. If possible, the employer should include written documentation as support for its position.

An employment law attorney can protect an employer’s interests and guide the employer through the EEOC process by investigating the situation and preparing the employer’s response.
