The Hubbard County Board selected Jeffrey Cadwell as the new county administrator. The employment contract was approved at their Tuesday, March 2 meeting.

Cadwell is currently the Mahnomen County administrator, a position he has held since October 2019. He’ll begin working in Hubbard County no later than May 3. The at-will contract includes an annual salary of $118,661. Interim County Administrator Kay Mack will continue to serve until Cadwell’s transition to the role.

County board chair David De La Hunt said, “After extensive research, discussion and comparison between the coordinator and administrative form of government coupled with the recent resignation of County Coordinator Eric Nerness, the county saw the wisdom and opportunity to make the move to an administrative form of management. The county board and staff are excitedly looking forward to having Mr. Cadwell join our team. Mr. Cadwell has extensive experience in making the transition we seek.”

Cadwell was one of six candidates interviewed by county commissioners at a special meeting on Feb. 24.

He previously served as county administrator for Cook County (four years), city administrator for Mahnomen (three years) and city administrator/clerk/treasurer for Browns Valley, Minn. (two years). He has also held a number of private sector positions. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history and political science and a master’s degree in public administration.

Cadwell said, “After meeting the commissioners and department heads during the interview process, I am very excited to begin my work in Hubbard County. There is a commitment to strategic planning and employee and organizational development that make this a great time to be coming on board. I have always loved Park Rapids and the rest of Hubbard County tourism opportunities and look forward to getting to know the community better.”
