MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) - Meridian Community College held a Spring Signing Ceremony for several of its student-athletes on Wednesday afternoon.

Two members of the Eagles’ Softball Team will be moving on, as Tabitha Mayfield and Lynnzie Kennedy both signed with Mississippi University for Women.

Three members of the Men’s Soccer Team will be moving on to various universities, as Matheus Farias signed with Williams Baptist University, Aiden Farmer signed with Blue Mountain College, and Thiago Fasano sided with the University of Science and Arts in Oklahoma.

Three members of MCC’s Tennis Team signed with various colleges, as Isabella Quintero signed with Dallas Baptist University, Amelia Anding signed with Delta State University, and Millie Gallarno signed with Bellhaven University.

Two members of the Eagles’ Baseball Team will be moving on, as Braeden Brewer signed with Milsaps College, and Eli Heubner signed with Arkansas Little Rock.

Wednesday’s signing ceremony was doubly special for MCC’s President, Dr. Tom Huebner, whose son Eli, is a member of the Baseball Team and will continue his academic and athletic career with Arkansas Little Rock.

“I mean it’s exciting because when you start this journey, you don’t know where it’s going to end. There’s this, this constant... I don’t know what the right word is... a pressure in some regard, but in other ways, excitement about what the future is going to look like. That means they have to perform, they have to do well, and then hope other people notice. Then that recruiting process starts over just like it did in high school. So for my son to have the opportunity to play at the next level at the University of Arkansas, Little Rock is a big deal,” Dr. Huebner stated.

For MCC’s Athletic Director, Sander Atkinson, he couldn’t be more proud of the kids that signed on Wednesday and his coaches that helped these kids achieve their dreams.

“They’re all people that are dedicated to what they’re doing and trying to do everything they can to put kids in a position to be successful. That’s what it’s all about, and it’s a good feeling when you get to work with good people,” Atkinson said.
