This role reports to the Director, Technology Services. Reporting directly to this position are the Network Specialist(s), Network Administrator(s), Senior Telecommunication Analyst(s) and Co-op student(s) (as required), and external vendors.
The Manager, Network Operations contributes to the overall strategic technology plan of the University and to the effective operation of the University by evaluating, planning, managing and overseeing the delivery of appropriate network operation support services to the users of the organization, and is responsible for providing leadership to the Network Operations team. The Manager will be responsible for the effective and efficient operations of internally managed IT network/server operations used to support all processes used across all administrative and academic units at the University. This individual is also responsible for operational service management processes to ensure quality, efficiency, productivity and agility goals are achieved.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science;
- Minimum of 10 years' progressive experience in network operations combined with experience managing cross-functional teams;
- Experience managing and forecasting capital and operating budgets with Information Technology;
- Experience managing IT capital projects;
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
COMPETENCIES
- Deep understanding of Enterprise Server virtualization, both on-premise and cloud platforms, including solutions such as VMWare, MS Hyper-V, and Azure Local, and AWS will be a strong asset.
- Expert knowledge of servers, enterprise storage, networking and telecommunication system and services.
- Good knowledge on best practices on managing day to day administration of enterprise wide patch management will be a strong asset.
- Good understanding of backup technology and disaster recovery, Active Directory and other LDAP services.
- Good knowledge of data communication infrastructure technology and cable/wiring management systems.
- In depth knowledge of communication system operations, including the ability to quickly grasp new concepts and plan services using new technology.
- Thorough knowledge of technology infrastructure standards.
- Good working knowledge and work experience of a variety Microsoft desktop management tools such as SCCM and application virtualization tools such as Citrix Xenapp,
- AdminStudio and MAC management tools such as MDM and JAMF.
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service excellence and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to apply project management methodologies.
- Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to communicate a vision that inspires and motivates IT operations staff and aligns to the IT strategy and organizational vision.
- Effective influencing and negotiation skills in an environment where resources may not be in direct control of this role.
- Strong IT operations acumen, including cross-domain knowledge and preferably earlier career experience in an individual contributor role in IT operations.
- Success in leveraging both traditional practices as well as emerging methods that are optimized for agility.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute a plan that ensures that the right people are in the right roles at the right time and that employees are highly engaged and satisfied.
- Strong vendor management and partner relationship skills to identify and leverage internal and external resources to enhance capabilities that support business objectives.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts and technologies to senior leaders, and business concepts to the IT team.
- Ability to travel between campuses is required.

Salary Information
The compensation range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary (as listed above) for a position. Approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and approximately halfway of the salary range for a job. Annual salary increases are available through participation in the Administrative Performance Management program
