MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) - For federal workers out of a job in Vermont, the state says they’re here to help.

The Vermont Department of Labor announced measures to help federal employees, contractors, or other people impacted by federal overhauls.

The commissioner says there are 6,800 federal employees in Vermont’s workforce, but they did not say how many jobs have been impacted by layoffs.

Some of the letters sent to employees cite their “poor performance” since it’s a cause for termination. Those workers are technically not eligible for unemployment benefits unless the discrepancy has been adjudicated, a complex legal process.

Now, the state is letting people know about available resources from unemployment insurance benefits to career help.
