DURAND — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced three business expansion projects receiving Michigan Strategic Fund (MSF) support on Thursday that will create 129 new jobs and result in over $23 million in total capital investment in three counties.
One of which is projected to bring north of 50 new jobs to Shiawassee County.
Whitmer said in a press release that Acculevel, a foundation repair and waterproofing solutions provider, will establish its regional headquarters in Durand, a project anticipated to result in $3.8 million in capital investment and create 52 new jobs with starting wages between $48 and $72 per hour plus benefits.
The wages are significantly higher than the regional median wage of $20.71, per the release, which states that the project “supports the diversification of industries in Shiawassee County,” which currently has an unemployment rate of 5.7%.
The MSF’s investment has been supported through a Michigan Business Development Program (MBDP) grant in the amount of $250,000, states the release.
Andy Beery, founder and CEO of Acculevel, said in the presser that the company is partnering with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership (SEDP).
“We’re proud to partner with the MEDC and the Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership on this exciting project in Durand. Their support has been invaluable, and we share their commitment to fostering economic development and creating opportunities in this region. This grant is not just an investment in Acculevel; it’s an investment in the future of Durand,” he said.
Acculevel is an Indiana-based company that has locations in Ohio, Missouri, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan, including an office in Owosso that employes 12.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Acculevel to Shiawassee County, where their investment in Durand will not only drive economic growth but also create well-paying jobs that strengthen our local workforce,” said state Sen. Sam Singh (D-East Lansing), whose district encompasses parts of Shiawassee County. “Strategic investments like this don’t just boost local economies — they create lasting opportunities for families and businesses alike. I’m also grateful to the city of Durand for its leadership and commitment to making this project a reality.”
The release states that the city of Durand has offered a “staff, financial or economic commitment to the project” in the form of talent attraction resources, introductions to local partnerships and to expedite the process for any permits needed.
“The city of Durand is pleased to welcome Acculevel to our home. We see their business and job creation as a benefit to our residents and the surrounding areas as we continue to find ways to grow and develop our city with community-minded partners,” said Durand Mayor Jeff Brands. “We happily supported Acculevel through this grant process and are grateful to the MEDC for sharing in our belief in the company and the good they’ll bring with them. A well-deserved congratulations to the Acculevel team.”
