Group fully restores van as gift to nonprofit shelter in Phoenix

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — An old van that had been sitting in a junkyard has been fully restored and will be gifted to a Valley shelter that helps homeless and pregnant women get back on their feet. And that is something good!
That van, a 2007 Honda Odyssey, was restored by the Phoenix-based group Girl Gang Garage. Many of them were women looking to learn about cars, led by master mechanics who taught them about metalwork, painting, detailing and other skills.
The van will be donated to nonprofit Maggie’s Place on Saturday, where it will be used to help support pregnant women in need by taking them to doctor’s appointments, job interviews and more.
Bogi Lateiner, the founder of Girl Gang Garage, says it’s all about women giving back to other women in need.
“We don’t realize it when we have good transportation, but when you don’t have it, it is absolutely everything,” Lateiner said. “I hope this gives them a chance to do something for themselves, to raise themselves up, to help their family to have a better opportunity.”
