BEDC Financial Literacy Month Workshops

The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation [BEDC] said they are “recognizing Financial Literacy Month this April by encouraging the community to strengthen their understanding of money management. ”

A spokesperson said, “While BEDC’s focus is on supporting entrepreneurs and small business owners, Financial Literacy Month speaks to a broader need—empowering all individuals with the tools to make informed financial decisions.

“Throughout the month, BEDC will be sharing practical financial tips across its platforms and hosting two events designed to build financial confidence and capability.

“The first event, Excel Your Business: Profit & Loss Made Simple, will be held on Thursday, April 10th from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at BEDC’s Training Room, Sofia House, 48 Church Street. This free hands-on workshop is ideal for entrepreneurs and individuals looking to improve their financial tracking using Excel. Participants will learn how to transform electronic bank statements into a working Profit & Loss Sheet using pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and basic formulas.

“The second event is QuickBooks 101: Master the Basics of QuickBooks Online Software, a four-week course presented in partnership with Abacus. Running from April 22nd to May 13th, sessions will take place every Tuesday from 6:00 PM to 8:15 PM at the BEDC Main Office. The course is designed for entrepreneurs and small business owners who want to streamline their accounting processes and get a better handle on managing day-to-day transactions. Topics will include company setup, navigating QuickBooks Online, recording transactions, and using reporting tools to analyze performance.

“The cost for the course is $350 for BEDC-registered businesses and $375 for non-registered businesses and the general public. Participants are encouraged to have QuickBooks Online already set up, but support will be provided as needed.”

Donte Hunt, Director of MSME at the BEDC, stressed the significance of financial literacy across all segments of society, “Whether managing personal finances or running a business, financial literacy is fundamental.
