Trinidad and Tobago: The leader of the United National Congress (UNC) of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad Bissessar highlighted her vision for the welfare of the workers of the nation, aiming to promote and protect their rights providing them with the benefits, and privileges they deserve.
Kamla who is also the Leader of the opposition also slammed the People’s National Movement (PNM) for frightening the workers by attacking them on various platforms.
UNC criticized the wrongdoings of the PNM Government by threatening the workers at their workplaces and denying their rights and privileges.
Kamla Persad Bissessar reiterated her commitment to delivering the workers and union members of Trinidad and Tobago with various advantages like high wages, better health insurance, and a better future.
She further mentioned the urgent need and importance of freeing the workers from the operation and dictatorship of the People’s National Movement’s Government.
PSA President Felisha Thomas supports UNC
The President of the Public Service Association, Felisha Thomas also extended her support to the
United National Congress (UNC). She also blamed the PNM Government for the overexploitation of the workers, causing thousands of people to lose their jobs and stagnate their wages.
President Felisha Thomas also criticized the PNM government for mistreating the rights of the workers, leading to a significant increase in the unemployment rate of Trinidad and Tobago.
She shared the figures outlining thousands of people losing their jobs under the tenure of the PNM government.
PSA President also shed light on the data, stating around 9000 workers from Caroni lost their jobs in 2003 and 1800 employees from British West Indian Airways were fired in 2006.
Around 111 workers lost their jobs in 2017 and 644 employees from Ansa McAl were terminated in 2016. The President also noted, in 2018, that 500 workers from Telecommunication Services of TT lost their jobs.
This data shared is the base on which UNC is willing to work and to help out the people by providing them with jobs, trainings and enhance their skills and not repeat the mistakes done by PNM.
