As I push toward old age, I have definitely noticed a slowing down in the area of brain function. Hopefully, this is just part of the natural aging process and not some warning that I’m on the express train to full-blown Joe Biden-like dementia. However, when I do really dumb stuff like call one of my grandchildren “Lucy,” which is my dog’s name, or spend an hour searching the house for reading glasses that are on the top of my head, or get in my car and then have to think, “Where was I heading?” then it really starts to make me wonder.
To make me feel better about my own cognitive decline, I like to tell myself that part of the reason that I struggle is that I am trying to juggle too many potential column thoughts in my head. I know this is a reasonably lame excuse, but let’s run with it anyway and let’s try and unload some of those scattered column thoughts today.
Let’s start with this one. On Friday, May 9, at 6 p.m., the Salvation Army of Laurel will be hosting their “3rd Annual Red Shield Gala.” The gala will return to the Wayne-Sanderson Farm multi-purpose facility, which hosted the initial soiree. “Mystique Masquerade” will be the theme of this “formal or semi-formal” event, and it will feature live music, food, a silent auction, a raffle and much more. Solo tickets are available for $100, but better yet, splurge for your own Gold Sponsor table of eight for $1,000.
The Red Shield Gala is The Salvation Army’s largest fundraiser outside of the Red Kettle Campaign at Christmas, and the money raised will feed the hungry, shelter the homeless and provide underprivileged kids with youth programs and camp opportunities. I’ve been on the advisory board of The Salvation Army for a number of years now and I can personally vouch that this charity, especially the Laurel branch, which is one of only two locations in Mississippi that provide a homeless shelter, is a top-notch organization in which your donations actually get utilized for its intended purpose of helping the needy.
I have the utmost respect for Capts. Keisha and Jason McMullin and all the people who work at the Laurel location. They are great people who are truly doing the Lord’s work. Please help them by supporting The Red Shield Gala. If you are interested in purchasing tickets or a table, you can call the Salvation Army directly at 601-428-4232 or 662-458-7413, or you can email me at publisher@leader-call.com, and I will personally hook you up.
This week, I got hit with possibly the dumbest lawsuit in the history of lawsuits. Laurel mayoral candidate, Al Sharpton wannabe, attention-seeker and race-baiter Anthony Hudson is asking a Jones County court to award him half a million dollars because he believes that our former Editor-in-Chief Mark Thornton is guilty of “discrimination against plaintiff” and “Gross Negligence of duty of care,” whatever that means. I doubt Anthony Hudson knows what it means.
Hudson, who is a serial lawsuit filer and one of the world’s worst whiners to boot, is also suing Ben and Erin Napier of all people.
Here is exactly how Hudson worded this in his lawsuit: “Defendants Ben & Erin Napiers is owners of the Laurel Leader Call and is place of business is located at 414 Front Street, Laurel, MS 30440”. Not only is the grammar on level with a kindergarten student but Hudson was informed via Facebook by Erin’s mom, Karen Rasberry, that the Napier’s do not own any part of the Laurel Leader-Call, yet now they too, have to deal with Hudson’s stupidity.
Hudson has been angry with this newspaper and specifically Mark Thornton for years because, well, we ignore him purposely — not because he is black but because he is a blooming idiot.
Recently, Hudson was posting on Facebook about how racist we are and how we ignore the concerns of the black community when Mark simply couldn’t take it anymore. He responded to Hudson’s nonsense with a sarcastic, “Anthony Hudson, Yes, I always “paid” more attention to whites’ concerns, and that was a real challenge, considering that four of the seven council members, the mayor and all but one of the department heads are Black. Thanks for noticing! Pull your head out of your ass, and maybe you’ll stop seeing only one color.”
Of course, Hudson, isn’t intellectually capable of sensing sarcasm, so he took Mark’s post as an admission of racism, and thus here we are facing a ridiculous lawsuit from a ridiculous human being. I’ll let y’all know how it turns out.
And, finally, another big column topic that I considered was the targeting of electric-car company Tesla and their founder, Elon Musk. If anyone is a bigger hero than Donald Trump, it is Elon Musk. Like so many others they’ve turned against, Musk was once a darling of the Left. What got Musk ousted from the club is the same reason that he should have statues erected in his honor… the man single-handedly saved free speech and thus saved our nation.
If Elon Musk hadn’t purchased Twitter, allowing one major social-media platform to share in the free exchange of ideas and speech without government censorship, it is likely Donald Trump would have lost this election. And if that had happened, the America that our Founding Fathers have bestowed on us would have been lost forever.
But even that wasn’t enough for Mr. Musk. The richest and possibly smartest man on Earth knows that the United States cannot survive on free speech alone. He knows that we must reign in government corruption and spending, or we will not only collapse economically but we will bring the entire world down with us. He is right.
So far, Elon Musk through his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has saved American taxpayers $140 billion on waste and fraud, which comes to more than $800 per taxpayer, but he isn’t stopping there, having set a goal of trimming $1 trillion of fat. Instead of rejoicing that we have a true hero trying to save taxpayers from having to pay for programs such as $2.3 million for “gender-neutral” toilets for astronauts, $4.5 million to develop “sustainable” coffee cups, $2 million to teach farmers how to play the violin in South America and $6.2 million to train rats to detect land mines, the Democrats want Elon Musk deported, imprisoned, or killed and his business destroyed.
Recently, former Congressman Jamaal Bowman went on CNN and called Musk a “Nazi” and “thief.” Minnesota Gov. and former VP candidate Tim Walz joked about Tesla stock plummeting after left-wing lunatics firebombed Tesla dealerships. And, unhinged and psychotically stupid Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett called for Elon Musk to be “taken down” for her birthday.
All of this proves just one thing: we obviously have a mental-health problem in this country, and it’s called the Democrat Party.
