Pep Guardiola tells Sky Sports reporter to get a new job after Man Utd draw
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola joked with the Sky Sports reporter interviewing him after his side had been held to a draw by Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday
Pep Guardiola suggested a Sky Sports reporter should work in a different industry following Manchester City's draw with local rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Catalan coach helped oversee a tepid affair on Sunday afternoon, with both teams seemingly content with a point at the final whistle.
And in an interview following the game, Guardiola was in a playful mood when faced with Sky Sports reporter Patrick Davidson, who was taking him to task over the Premier League champions' display. The Catalan coach did not want to give much away but was more than happy to poke fun at his interviewer as he probed for answers.
"How could you have hurt them more?" Davidson asked the City boss. "The players know this," came back Guardiola.
"Can you share it with us? The game is gone now..." Davidson tried again. "You should know, after nine years together," the City boss replied.
"I don't know enough about football," came the modest response from the man with the microphone. Former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager Guardiola could not withhold his smile at this point.
"You should work in business maybe? And then ask about football," Guardiola joked, before offering a little more detail "They [the players] know it. The process. If the ball is on one side, the players have to be in the right position. Today was not enough good."
Guardiola acknowledged that his side had to be wary of United's ability on the counter. The 54-year-old suggested the Red Devils are a 'transitional' team despite Ruben Amorim's ambitions to improve their build up play.
"In the last games, we are much better," Guardiola said. "The back four was better but it's just the process [wasn't there]. When we lose the ball, they are a strong team; they punish you on the transition and we know that. They are really good on the transition so you have to be alert. Every time we come here or at the Etihad.
"I think Ruben is going to try and make incredible build-up, I know they do the process really well, but maybe mainly they are a transitional or counter-attacking team."
Guardiola conceded his team had difficulty breaking down the opposition. On this occasion he believes his side were simply not good enough.
"We know all the time against 5-4-1, is always difficult," he added. "They defend narrow here, allowed to outside the jam.
"Since many, many years, I'm playing against 5-4-1, defense in deep. So it's not new and always, we were able to do it all the quality of the players, the talent to do it. But this is an extra that I cannot expect because they can play badly. "
