BLUEFIELD, W. Va. (WVVA) -Employment opportunities are the main focus at Bluefield State University on Wednesday at their 36th annual career fair. This year, the fair brought nearly eighty different businesses, departments, and organizations, offering jobs for students interested in everything from engineering to education.

The opportunities extended beyond state lines, with jobs available in Virginia as well. We spoke to one such Old Dominion employment opportunity, the Virginia State Police, who returned to Bluefield State University to find those with integrity, ethics, and accountability wanting to become the next generation of troopers.

Their recruiter says these fairs are a great way to get the word out about their new employment incentives and share what it’s like to be a Virginia State Police trooper.

“I think that if you can kind of share your trooper story with those that, you know, look at us and automatically assume speeding ticket or, you know, traffic enforcement, again, I want them to be very openminded of the opportunities and, specifically, what I’ve been involved with throughout my tenure, so, again, for those that maybe not necessarily closeminded but may not think they have what it takes, it is my job to ensure that, you know, they’re very well aware of their potential,” says Senior Trooper Gavin Scott.

Scott recommends other employers consider setting up at next year’s BSU career fair, calling it and good way to recruit and network and adds Virginia State Police will be back as well. He encourages students to join them here but says you don’t need to wait to find out more about Virginia State Police jobs, just go to the website here.
