The Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman (WORC) recently concluded its ‘District Days’ initiative, held across five (5) districts from 17 to 25 March 2025. The event served as a vital platform for community engagement; connecting Caymanian job seekers with employment opportunities and critical workforce development resources.
This annual event aims to connect Caymanian job seekers with WORC’s employment support services and career opportunities. Partnering with businesses annually, WORC hosts mini-expos where job seekers explore careers, meet potential employers, and learn about employment initiatives such as Ready2Work and Passport2Success.
Approximately 195 Caymanian job seekers attended WORC District Days, mostly young adults. Some registered for the first time, while others updated their information. Denise Myers, Programme Coordinator for WORC District Days, expressed her satisfaction with this year’s event, noting its success in engaging numerous individuals, particularly the youth. “We were able to provide a platform that not only connected job seekers with essential information but also helped remove barriers to employment readiness,” Myers stated.
This year, nine (9) prominent entities partnered with WORC: Cayman Airways, Massive Equipment Rental and Sales Ltd, Public Works Department, National Roads Authority, Health Services Authority, Health City Cayman Islands, Corporate Electric Ltd, Department of Children and Family Services, and Superior Auto. A representative from Corporate Electric Ltd shared, “Being part of WORC District Days was a significant highlight for us, as it provided the opportunity to offer advice, assist others, and gain valuable insights into job seekers’ perspectives on the job market. Thank you again for giving Corporate Electric the opportunity to participate.” Superior Auto also reported positive outcomes. “We have enrolled one student, connected with two others, and may gain another. I believe this initiative is a great one as it allows the business sector to reach out to people and give them a real sense of what career opportunities and work environments exist,” a representative stated.
National Roads Authority (NRA) has since informed WORC that they will be onboarding five (5) temporary employees they met through the event – one from each district. “These efforts will give these persons some financial stability, and provide on-the-job training and development across various sectors of the Authority,” shared Shena Ebanks, MHRM at the NRA.
WORC extends its gratitude to all entities and individuals who contributed to the success of 2025 District Days. With growing participation and continued collaboration, the initiative remains a crucial step toward empowering Caymanians in their career journeys.
For Caymanians who were unable to attend any of these events, WORC encourages them to register for employment support services by contacting WORC at worcservices@gov.ky . Additionally, Caymanians interested in training or development opportunities should contact WORC by calling 945-9672 or emailing worc.training@gov.ky .
