Good morning, Cyprus! It’s Friday, the weekend is within arm’s reach, and Easter is just a hop, skip and a 'tsougrisma' away. But before we bust out the lamb skewers and red eggs, let’s talk weather.
Today, the skies are in a bit of a mood, partly cloudy with a chance of afternoon showers. These will likely show up in the west and the mountains, probably just to remind us that umbrellas still exist. Blame it on a weak low-pressure system and some particularly energetic westerly winds sweeping across the island like they’ve got weekend plans too.
Winds will be strutting in from the southwest to northwest at a feisty 4 to 5 Beaufort, and in wind-prone areas, expect gusts that might try to snatch your souvla hat at a strong 6 Beaufort. The sea? A bit dramatic. Rough pretty much everywhere, especially wavy in the west and north, so maybe postpone that boat ride unless you fancy a saltwater facial.
Temperatures will be polite but unimpressive, around 19°C inland and on the west coast, 21°C on the rest of the coast, and a brisk 8°C up in the mountains. Scarf weather if you're heading to Troodos.
Tonight, expect more patchy clouds and the occasional shy shower, mostly in the mountains. Winds will start to mellow out, sliding from northwest to north, around 3 to 4 Beaufort. Temperatures will drop to 6°C inland, around 9–11°C along the coast, and a frosty 0°C in the higher mountains, where a little local frost is expected...snow bunnies, take note!
Weekend sneak peek:
- Saturday: Partly cloudy with a slight chance of mountain rain — nothing a good brunch can’t fix.
- Sunday: Getting moodier. Cloudy with local showers and maybe even a rumble or two. Troodos might even get a sprinkle of snow or sleet, spring playing dress-up as winter, again.
- Monday: Still cloudy, with hit-and-miss showers and the odd thunderstorm. Yep, snow or sleet still on the Troodos forecast.
Temps will stick around these cooler-than-usual levels, so your Easter flowers might need a bit of extra sunshine next week.
