MaryAnn Keprta Srubar, age 94, passed away peacefully Monday, April 8, 2025, after an extended illness. She was born in East Bernard on August 5, 1930, to Adolph and Mary Kana Keprta. She attended Hungerford Grade School through the 10th grade and then transferred to Wharton High School, graduating with the Class of 1947 at age 16. She had summer jobs at the Wharton County Court House and Roecker’s Music Company selling records, with plans to go to Houston Business School.

As a young girl, MaryAnn enjoyed playing tennis, roller skating at Bushnell’s in Beasley, and going to dances with friends. At one of those dances in Wallis, MaryAnn met Wilfred (Bill) Srubar, and they danced the night away. World War II temporarily interrupted their young romance as Bill deployed overseas.
