Davenport, Iowa (Feb. 14, 2018) — Film-lovers will have a chance to see the world without leaving their seat as the World Adventure Series gears up for its final three programs of the season at the Putnam's Giant Screen Theater.

The series continues Feb. 20 by showcasing the “The Lure & Lore of Deserts” along with comments from film director Sandy Mortimer before and after the showing and concludes April 10 with “Guatemala: Land of the Maya.”

The World Adventure Series films document different regions of the world, capturing their rich history, culture and beautiful scenes.

“The World Adventure Series films are not only breathtaking films — they are educational and immerse viewers in different countries from all over the world,” said Kim Findlay, president & CEO of the Putnam Museum & Science Center.

The remaining World Adventures Series films for 2018 are:

Feb. 20: “The Lure & Lore of Deserts”

The world’s deserts are each unique with their own look, feel and past, especially the lore and legends of the little-known sites that have yet to be explored. Through Egypt, Israel, Jordan and America, this film immerses viewers in the natural beauty and splendor of deserts to discover the lore that has been left behind.

Guest speaker: Sandy Mortimer, director of “The Lure & Lore of Deserts”

March 27: “Promised Land: Adventures in the Middle East”

This travel documentary, directed by Rick Ray, explores several Middle Eastern countries including Israel, Jordan and Turkey, and it showcases the wonders of those lands while discussing their rich histories and cultures.

April 10: “Guatemala: Land of the Maya”

A land with deep roots, anchored in the mysteries of the Lost Kingdoms of the Maya, “Guatemala: The Land of the Maya” begins by exploring the achievements of the ancient Maya, examining historic tension between Mayan tradition and Spanish colonialism and more!

Guest speaker: Brent Winebrenner, director of “Guatemala: Land of the Maya”

Each movie plays at 2 and 6 p.m. Individual ticket prices for a World Adventure Series film are $8.50 for adults, $7.50 for students/seniors/military and $7 for youth (3-18). Putnam members take $1 off ticket prices.
